Sprinter Nadia Nazeer, her son killed in road crash near Bahawalnagar
BAHAWALNAGAR: Sprinter Nadia Nazeer and her five-year-old son were killed in a road accident near Bahawalnagar district of Punjab on Saturday, Aaj News reported.Â
According to the sources, Nadia was heading back to Sahiwal from a wedding ceremony with her family when their car was hit by a speeding trailer at Chishtian Road near Ada Amin Kot.
The accident left Nadia and her son dead, while her husband was severely injured and shifted to a hospital for treatment.
Nadia holds the distinction of winning five bronze medals in international 400 metre sprints. She had the honour of being a national champion four times.
In the year 2007, Nadia made a national record by jumping 10 obstacles in 1:10 minutes in a national competition in Karachi. She broke her own record a year later in 2008.
She had also represented Pakistan in South Asian games and Islamic games.
In 2011, the athlete tied the knot in Bahawalnagar, however her married life failed to diminish her passion for the sport.
Pakistan Sport Board and Athletic Federation expressed sorrow over the unpredictable death of Nadia and her son. The president of Pakistan Olympics Association General (R) Arif Hassan also offered condolences to Nadia's family.
