Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Syed Tariq Fatemi has said Pakistan will work closely with new US administration led by President-elect Donald Trump.

In an interview with a US newspaper "the Washington Times", he said Pakistan believes that Trump's business background and strong interest in economic ties match the vision and policies of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif.

Tariq Fatemi said the volatility that plagued Pak-US relations under previous regimes in Pakistan has subsided.

To a question, he rejected reports of pending major weapons sales between Russia and Pakistan but said Islamabad is exploring all options from all countries to arm its military.

Tariq Fatemi said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's goal is to establish mutually beneficial economic ties with all countries.

He said Pakistan is weighing Russian participation in the creation of oil pipeline from Karachi to Lahore and construction of power plant.

Tariq Fatemi rejected reports that Pakistan's emerging military relationship with Russia is in response to India's closer military ties with Washington.

On counter-terrorism, operations, he said Donald Trump's views align with those of Pakistan's leadership.
