State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Maryam Aurangzeb on Monday said that lawyers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) failed to present any evidence against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Supreme Court on the Panama leaks.  

Speaking to reporters outside Supreme Court, she expressed confidence that the prime minister will get a clean chit in the Panama Papers case, adding that the PM does not own any offshore company but he presented himself for accountability.

She called upon media to ensure neutral coverage of the apex court proceedings and avoid speculations, saying there was a huge difference between 'container politics' and court's proceedings.

Aurangzeb said that media needs to show responsibility and report only the proceedings of the Panama Leaks case as the leaders of other parties especially Imran Khan narrate stories which have no link with court's proceedings.

She said the opponents of the PML N only level allegations and time has come when the PTI leadership will run away from the courts as well. The minister said that the Prime Minister had written a letter to Supreme Court for investigation into the Panama leaks.

The minister said the lawyers of PM and his family have filed replies to all allegations and their case was very strong. "We want that the Panama Papers case should thoroughly be investigated and be decided by the honourable court," she added.

She said the PTI leadership has been trying to create chaos and anarchy through their baseless allegations, but when time of proving claims came they could not provide any proof.

PML-N leader Talal Chaudhry, on the occasion, said they were successful in the court of public and now they will win this case in the top court of Pakistan. He said the PTI Chairman was afraid of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's popularity and massive public support.

Talal Chaudhry said the sit-ins in the past caused huge damage to the country and created hindrances in the development process.

He said the Prime Minister's priority was not doing politics but country's development and honour. Minister of State for Capital Administration and Development Division Tariq Fazal Chaudhary said they have all the proof to refute all the allegations levelled against Prime Minister's family.

He asked the PTI to stay away from "holding courts" on streets and the media and wait for Supreme Court's verdict in this case. He hoped that the allegations levelled against Prime Minister would be proved wrong that would put the PTI's politics of agitation to an end. -Business Recorder
