KOLKATA: India was reduced to 239-7 at stumps on day one of the second test against New Zealand in Kolkata.

Wriddhiman Saha (14 not out) and Ravindra Jadeja were at the crease when play was called off due to bad light with four overs remaining.

Matt Henry (3-35) and Jeetan Patel (2-66) shared five wickets, as the hosts lost four for 109 runs in the final session. The slide began when Cheteshwar Pujara (87) was caught off Neil Wagner in the 70th over, the batsman missing out on a century for the third successive innings. Ajinkya Rahane (77) had scored his ninth test fifty, but he too missed out on three figures.

Rahane was out lbw to Patel in the 78th over. In between those two big wickets, Rohit Sharma (2) was caught at short leg off the same bowler, failing to spot Patel's extra bounce.

Ravichandran Ashwin (26) was the last wicket to fall on the opening day, lbw to Henry. He added 31 quick-fire runs with Saha, before his luck ran out.
