Karachi Commissioner pays tribute to slain cops and polio workers

KARACHI: Paying glowing tribute to the cops, rangers and polio workers who lost their lives in line of their respective duties, the Karachi Commissioner, Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui said city is indebted to them and will duly honor their sacrifice.

Talking to 36th batch of trainee officers, at Lahore's Civil Service Academy, presently in Sindh as part of their study tour, he said contribution and sacrifice of committed people towards creation of a "Soft Image of Karachi" will not go in vain.

"We will help the bereaved families in best possible manner with special care for children and elderly relatives of the departed souls," he said.

Commissioner of Karachi said government is not only committed to provide needed relief to the people but also making all out efforts for protection of their lives as well as sanctity.

Siddiqui also apprised them of steps taken by the government to promote industrial, trade and investment activities in Karachi, with special emphasis to make it safe and attractive for foreign investors.

On part of Karachi Divisional Administration, he said lack of coordination among different departments and agencies had appeared to be a major problem for officials themselves as well as for the people in general.

"To address this he said the divisional administration has constituted a committee comprising representatives of all concerned departments that regularly hold joint meeting and address issues related overlapping of authority in most mailable manner," said the commissioner.

On directives of divisional administration Deputy Commissioners and Assistant Commissioners, pertaining to all districts and sub divisions of Karachi, are taking action against profiteers, adulterators, hoarders and fined 1000 of culprits while a significant number has also been jailed for violating official price list for essential food items.

The commissioner said the divisional administration is also committed to combat encroachments that have been established to be turned into safe havens for criminals and terrorists in the city.

Meanwhile realizing its social responsibility towards the citizens internships have also been arranged for local youth and on completion of training job opportunities are also created in collaboration with private sector institutions.

Equal attention is being paid to ensure timely completion of development projects in the city coupled with provision for healthy recreational and sports activities for the citizens in general said the commissioner of Karachi.

In reply to question raised by the trainees, Siddiqui said Saddar is being turned into an attractive shopping zone for local as well as foreigners visiting Karachi.
