NRO case: PM Raja ordered to file reply by July 25
ISLAMABAD: In its short verdict Supreme Court ordered PM Raja Pervaiz Ashraf to submit his reply by July 25, else will take action against him
In its order, the court stated that, PM has no choice but to write the letter, and he does not need any summary for it.
The order, also hinting at a contempt of court notice, stated that all laws applicable to former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani were also applicable to the current prime minister.
Earlier, Despite the orders from the Supreme Court, Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf did not submit reply whether or not he will write a letter to the Swiss authorities to re-open graft cases involving President Asif Ali Zardari.
A three-member bench of the Supreme Court resumed the hearing of the NRO implementation case today (Thursday), as it was expected, the government requested the court to give some time for reply.
During the hearing, Attorney General Irfan Qadir told the bench that the court’s order had been delivered to the prime minister.
The order has also been forwarded to the federal law ministry, Qadir said.
The attorney general moreover said that the cabinet and the prime minister would make a collective decision on the issue of corresponding with Swiss authorities.
He requested the court to postponed the case till summers.. Upon which CJ replied that, Court has listened what you wanted to say and giving you time till 3.30 for your final decision.
The proceedings is underway in SC.
On March 8, 2012 the court had directed the former Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani that in compliance of the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) judgment write letter to the Swiss authorities, regardless of advice of secretaries and submit a compliance report.
Meanwhile government has also moved and passed a bill which provides shelter to the prominent governmental authorities including the Prime Minster.
