Cabinet approves minorities quota in assemblies

ISLAMABAD: The federal cabinet on Wednesday approved to increase seats for non-Muslims in national and provincial assemblies, proportionate to their population.

Under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf, the cabinet constituted a committee comprising Minister for Law, Minister for Interfaith Harmony and Minister for Religious Affairs to submit a report on it in next cabinet meeting.

On power shortage, the cabinet decided that there would be no load-shedding in Ramazan during the Taraveeh, Sehar and Iftar timings. It was decided to ensure load-shedding on equal basis throughout the country.

The Water and Power ministry told the cabinet that power generation had increased and the shortfall reduced to 3,500 MW.

About experiment on running small vehicles on hydrogen gas extracted from water, it was decided to refer the matter to the Ministry of Science and Technology.

The Minister for Religious Affairs had brought the matter to the notice of the cabinet after witnessing the scientific demonstration in Sukkur.

The Cabinet was apprised that additional 2,000 MW electricity would be added to the national grid by the end of this year.

The Cabinet was informed that 90 percent of its decisions regarding the Ministry of Communication had been implemented. APP
