Dual nationality case: PPP MNA Zahid Iqbal suspended
ISLAMABAD:Â The Supreme Court on Monday suspended the membership of Pakistan People's Party MNA Zahid Iqbal for holding dual citizenship.
Another, PML-N MNA Jamil Malik accepted his dual nationality of Holland and the court will pass the judgement over it in the next hearing.
A three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and comprising Justice Jawad S Khawaja and Justice Khilji Arif Hussain, heard the petition, seeking disqualification of parliamentarians holding dual nationality.
Counsel of Rehman Malik Anwar Mansoor, requested the court to give him some time due to the absence of Malik's lawyer in Britain, therefore he was given time till the next hearing.
Later, the hearing was adjourned till July 2.
Earlier, the court had suspended the membership of MNA Farahnaz Ispahani for holding the US citizenship. Similarly, the incumbent Adviser to Prime Minister and former Interior Minister Rehman Malik’s Senate membership was also suspended for holding the British citizenship.
The court, however, found no incriminating material against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) central leader Khawaja Asif, Federal Minister for Finance Abdul Hafeez Sheikh, PML-N MNA Anousha Rehman, MNA Chaudhry Iftikhar Nazir and Deputy Chairman Senate Sabir Ali Baloch.
