Prices move both ways on commodities’ market

Shortened by one day on strike call by harassed businessmen trading experienced measured going, buying in mainly Ramazan related commodities during the past week.

Back to local markets, they moved gently as opening day was marked by nearly no changes. However, on the cereal side gur low type was unchanged at Rs 4400, while the better quality turned higher by Rs 100 to Rs 5500, til low type also showed some gains. It rose by Rs 200 to Rs 3800 while better type turned higher by Rs 100 to Rs 4300.

Meanwhile commodities wholesale markets reported some fluctuations on both sides of counters, such as moong Australia rose for obvious reasons by Rs 250 to Rs 7250, masoor Canada dived down by Rs 300 to Rs 5200, masoor dal shed Rs 200 to Rs 6000, cottonseed oilcakes with bag Sindh low type lost Rs 150 to Rs 450 while the other quality gained Rs 100 to Rs 800.

Towards mid week world growers of wheat reported having gained, winter barley and rapeseed forecast to dip by 10 percent. Markets in some countries saw gains reversed on worry over Spain bailout. On the grams side grams Australia No. 1 low type shed Rs 200 to Rs 7600 and better quality was down by Rs 400 to Rs 7800, grams Australia dal No.1 was lower by Rs 200 to Rs 9000-9400 and grams 50x50 followed same pattern, losing same amount to Rs 8300-8700, other items maintained overnight levels in process of trading, they said.

On the cereal sector makai low variety shed Rs 85 to Rs 2290 and best type shed Rs 100 to Rs 2300, other commodity items retained overnight levels, they said.

On the seeds counter cottonseed oilcake with bag Sindh low type shed Rs 100 to Rs 500 while the good type maintained overnight level at Rs 800 due to strong demand, rapeseed Nawabshah low type retained overnight level at Rs 2300 while the best type shed Rs,25 to Rs 2325 and rapeseed Dadulane low type lost Rs 150 to Rs 1950 and best type was down by Rs 125 to Rs 2000, they said.

On the rice sector, slight improvement was seen as Irri-9 Sindh low type gained Rs 75 to Rs 5400 while the best type was unchanged at Rs 5600, Irri-6 Sindh low type was up by Rs 150 to Rs 3550 and the good type rose by Rs 50 to Rs 3650, Irri-while low type was unchanged at Rs 2600 white, the best type was lower by Rs 50 to Rs 2650, they said.
