CJP not involved in Dr Arsalan issue: Aitzaz
LAHORE: PPP leader and Senator Aitzaz Ahsan on Monday said that Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was not involved in Dr Arsalan issue.
Talking to media at the Lahore High Court, he said that some anchor persons were claiming that Malik Riaz had reliable material for evidence but Dr Arsalan Iftikhar in his statement denied it.
Some media persons created a hype on hearsay, he said and added that now the case was sub judice and the court would decide it.
To a question, Aitzaz denied the allegation that he had introduced Malik Riaz with Christina Lamb.
Aitzaz said that he had been trying at his own level that such sensational things should not be published which damage the honour of the judiciary. "Some friends have taken the matter to such a level that now Malik Riaz will have to appear before the Supreme Court and many things will be cleared on his arrival," he said.
"It is my wish that Malik Riaz should exercise restraint in this matter," he added.
"I feel hurt, if such like allegations are levelled against the judiciary as I have sacrificed a lot for the judiciary," he added.
He still believed the CJP was not responsible for this matter and if Arsalan had done anything then the action was limited to him only. But it was not appropriate to comment on it as the matter was pending before the court, he added.
To a question regarding demand for CJP resignation by a PPP leader, he said that the president and the prime minister were the most important office holders in the party and their reaction really important in this matter. He said the Prime minister had said that CJP should hold the trial of his son, if wanted, and added that no objection would be raised on the CJP for heading the bench hearing petitions against speaker's ruling in the prime minister's contempt of court case.
Aitzaz said that he had not seen all documents except few which hurt him.
