Hyderabad: Abducted Neurosurgeon killed in police operation

HYDERABAD: Three persons including a neurosurgeon, a policeman and a dacoit were killed during an operation conducted by the CPLC in Hyderabad earlier on Wednesday.

While a doctor and his mother was rescued in the operation.

On Wednesday morning a convoy of Citizens Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) went to Amaldar Chowk Qasimabad for rescuing the doctor—who was kidnapped from Taj Complex, Karachi 20 days ago—and were locked into a fire exchange with the kidnappers, CPLC Chief Ahmed Chinoy said.

The dacoits opened fire on the police during which the Dr. Aftab Qureshi and a policeman were killed. While police rescued Dr.Ashok Kumar and his mother who were kidnapped from Memon Goth, Karachi some 25days ago.

Kidnappers demanded 20 million ransom for the release of Dr. Qureshi, police said.

According to CPLC chief, they had informed the Hyderabad city police about the operation but city police were annoyed over the operation.

DIG Sanaullah Abbasi told Aaj news that provincial government will order a judicial inquiry into the matter.

Dr Qureshi was a professor and the head of department of neurosurgery in Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUHMS). He was picked up by two armed men when he left his clinic along with his assistant Imdad and another man on May 13.

Pakistan Medical Association announced three days mourning on the demise of Dr. Qureshi and Liaquat Medical University remained closed and also postponed all the examinations on Wednesday (today).
