According to a BBC report,  Pakistan's intelligence agencies have begun questioning more than twenty people who belong to security forces and law enforcement agencies.

They have been accused of having links with extremist elements and militant organisations.

According to sources, various police constables and sub-inspectors' names came up during the investigation. The majority of these suspects are from the Police department, where as, some of them have infiltrated the Rangers as well.

The suspects who are under arrest and being investigated are said to be members of extremist groups which are banned in Pakistan.

According to sources, suspects who are being probed by the intelligence agencies are currently serving time in central jails of Quetta and Peshawar while some of them are inmates of Rawalpindi Adiala jail and central jail of Bhawalpur. Majority of suspects involved in militancy are inmates of Bhawalpur central jail which is considered as Punjab's most secure prison. Extremists who are convicted and sentenced from all over the country are kept in Bhawalpur central jail as inmates.

The interior ministry has been informed about the on going questioning of law enforcement agencies i.ePolice and Rangers.

A statement is yet to be released from the Interior Ministry, stating its stance over this investigation.

On condition of anonymity, a Pakistan intelligence officer spoke to BBC, saying that the process of investigations was intensified after the number of attacks on military institutions, increased in Khyper PK and Balochistan's Federally Administered Tribal areas (FATA).

The probe began a week earlier, when the alleged militants were arrested and brought in for questioning. The arrested suspects revealed that they have had exclusive connections with policemen serving specially in the above mentioned areas, who leaked vital information like timing and routes of various high-profile movements in the city. Apart from that, information regarding key public officials and their movements was also provided by certain elements of our law enforcement agencies.

The suspects are being questioned by the authorities in their respective areas of posting.

It should be noted, that the Interior Minister had earlier formed a special committee to investigate the security officials of various jails who had alleged connections with extremists who were serving time inside those jails.

The committee presented its recommendations, holding various jail administrations responsible for the infiltration. The committee recommended that necessary actions should be taken against the jail administrations. However, the committees recommendations weren't fully observed and the government eventually failed to take necessary actions.
