The case of missing persons and human rights violation in Balochistan went under proceedings in the Quetta registry today. The proceedings were resumed by the Supreme Court's larger bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.

During the proceedings, Deputy Attorney General, Malik Sikander announced his resignation after leaving the courtroom for a while.

The incident occurred when Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, expressed his dissatisfaction with the Deputy AG Malik Sikander, due to the absence of defence secretary, interior secretary and PM's principal secretary who were summoned earlier by the apex court. It was Deputy AG Malik Sikander's responsibility to ensure the presence of above mentioned officials.

The Deputy Attorney General, in his defense, stated that he had not received a copy of the court's order. Expressing displeasure at his reply, the Cheif Justice ordered Malik to submit a written statement stating that he was unable to satisfy the court's orders.

Later, deputy Malik Sikander, left the courtroom for a ten minute recess and stated that he will no longer appear before the court as the Deputy Attorney General, instead he will be present only as a common lawyer.

"I have the right to live my life with respect, that is why I am resigning and appearing in court as a common lawyer," he said.

Pointing out the Intellegince agency (ISI) and the Frontier Corps (FC) the Chief Justice remarked, that the police have “failed to apprehend a single suspect” involved in these kidnappings and that continuous accusations were being made against the Frontier Corps (FC) and the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
