Dr. Khalil Chisti permitted to go Pakistan after 19 years
AJMER: The Indian Supreme Court on Thursday allowed Pakistani scientist Dr.Khalil Chisti to go Pakistan after 19 years of imprisonment, Aaj news reported.
Dr. Chisti was in jail since 1992. The 80-year-old was granted bail by the Indian Supreme Court on the deposition of Rs. 5 lakh.
The legal documentation of Dr. Chisti is under process and he will be sent back soon, Said Pakistani high commission in India.
Earlier, the issue of Dr. Chisti's release was raised during the meeting of President Zardari and Manmohan Singh. After that, the India Supreme court reopened the case.
Some sources quoted that, The Indian government also opposed Pakistani scientist repatriation appeal after he was released from Ajmer central jail in India.
Manmohan’s government was of the view that it was not in favour of Chisti’s repatriation to Pakistan saying that in that case Chisti might not return for future hearings in the Indian apex court.
Dr. Khalil Chisti went to Ajmer, India before last 20 years. He was caught in a murder allegation of Syed Idrees Chisti. He has been in Ajmer since, living at his ancestral home during the 18-year trial before being jailed following his conviction in January last year.
But Dr. Chisti's family never accepted the allegations and was continuously appealing for his bail.
Talking to Aaj News, Daughter of Dr. Chisti said, she has a belief in Almighty. They were fighting for his father and now their efforts proven successful.
