ISLAMABAD: The Supreme court adjourned the hearing of PM Gilani's  Contempt of court case till April 16 and directed AG Irfan Qadir to assist the case from Thursday (April 19), Aaj news reported.

After the appointment of new attorney General by the Prime Minister, The court slammed the decision when the hearing resumed today.

Justice Nasir ul Mulk remarked that, how the government can replace Molvi Haq whereas court elected him the prosecutor. Is the PM elected the prosecutor himself?

Later, Justice Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry giving remarks said that the Attorney General has been changed by a person against whom the contempt of court case was in process and whether such accuse should be permitted to appoint prosecutor of his liking.

The new AG Irfan Qadir present in the court and requested to give him some time for the case preparation, so he was given time till Thursday.

The seven-member larger bench including Justice Nasirul Mulk, Justice Asif Khosa, Justice Sarmad Jalal Usmani, Justice Ajaz Afzal Khan, Justice Ajaz Ahmed Chaudhry, Justice Gulzar Ahmad and Justice Athar Syed is hearing the case.

The court has directed Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan, the prime minister’s counsel, to conclude his arguments by next Wednesday April 18, after that Attorney General would start arguments.

Agencies: Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan said on Thursday that according to Article 10(A) of the Constitution, every Pakistani national has a right to transparent trial and that the way proceedings are currently carried are in conflict with article 10 (a).

He argued that the contempt of court ordinance of 2003 is obsolete and that a new ordinance was presented in 2004.

The premier’s counsel also said that his client had acted according to the summary sent by the Ministry of Law. He also argued if holding the prime minister in contempt is right or not.
