Energy conference seeks plans to resolve power crisis in Pakistan
LAHORE: The Second Energy conference begins in Lahore under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani here on Monday, Aaj news reported.
The conference aims to resolve the serious energy crisis facing by the country since last many years. Prime Minster Yousaf Raza Gilani announced a subsidiary for the user of 100units while surcharge on the users of 150 or more units of electricity.
According to the sources, The Punjab Government is hosting the conference and all the important stakeholders from all over the country were invited to attend it to find a permanent solution to the energy crisis.
All the Chief Ministers, Federal Minsters including CM Punjab Shahbaz Sharif, CM Sindh Qaim Ali Shah, CM Baluchistan Nawab Aslam Raisani, CM KP Amir Haider Hoti and CM Giligit Baltistan Mehdi Shah are attending the conference.
The conference is due to find solution of the current power crisis which caused the destruction of economic sector and industries in Pakistan.
Addressing the conference, Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif lamented about massive electricity theft taking place in the country. He said that investors are shifting to other countries and economy is facing a disaster.
Adding that, Constant rise in electricity bills and the fuel surcharge have literally taken bread out of the common man mouth. Where the revenue from this extra billing is going to be is anyone’s guess since, neither the circular debt has been paid nor any other project has been launched. Poor people are more affected from the crisis and they are living hand to mouth.
