PPP emerges as largest party in Senate

The voting for the Senate, upper house of the parliament, was completed on Friday and results were announced.

As many as 90 candidates contested for the 45 seats of the Senate, the polling began in four provincial assemblies and the National Assembly of the country at 9:00am and ended at 4: PM.

The newly-elected senators will replace 50 outgoing senators who will retire on March 12 after completing their six-year term.

According to unofficial results Sehar Kamran from PPP and Nasreen Jalil from MQM for was elected for the women seats in Sindh. Haram Ram Kashori Lal was elected to the minority Senate seat.

Hilal ur Rehman, Saleh Shah, Hidayatullah and Najam ul Hassan have been elected from FATA. Muzzafar Hussain Shah won for PML-F.

PML-N leaders Sardar Zulfiqar Khosa, Rafique Ranjwana, Zafarullah Dhandla and M Hamza have been elected from Punjab. PML-N leader Nurdat Sadiq and PPP leader Khalida Parveen have been elected for the women seats.

Tahir Mashadi and Mustafa Kamal have also been elected on the general Senate seats, while from the PPP Raza Rabbani, Syed Ghani, Ajiz Dhamra, Dr. Karim Khawaja and Mukhtiar Dhamra were successful.

Syed Mustafa Kamal and Tahir Mashodi have been elected for the General Senate seats. From PPP Raza Rabbani, Aijaz Dharma, Saeed Ghani, Mukhtiar Dharma and DR. Karim Khwaja were elected.

Four candidates were in the run for two technocrat seats in Senate polls from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Among them Farhatullah Babar was candidate of PPP. Second seat of technocrat has been bagged by Ilyas Bilour of ANP. While the losing candidates are Zafar Iqbal Jagra PML(N) Secretary General and former Senator and JUI(F) central leader, Maulana Rahat Hussain. ANP has won three seats and PPP bagged two. PPP leader, Faryal Talpure also visited KP assembly and witnessed the polling for senate elections.
