Govt, allies responsible for current political turmoil: Nawaz

Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif said on Monday that the Zardari-led PPP government had made a mockery of democracy in the country.

Talking to media at Raiwind after meeting with Mumtaz Bhutto, Nawaz Sharif said, "What is the harm in writing a letter to the Swiss government?". "This money is the people's money and should be brought back. It's only if this letter is writen that the money can be returned. Why is the government scared of writing this letter?" he argued.

"Is the government's committment towards the people or with those who looted this country?

The PM should think this through and decide which way he should go," he added.

He said that there is a consensus among all political parties that this government cannot be expected to hold free and fair elections, which is why the 20th amendment has been brought in the assembly. “We discussed the formation of an interim government and its mandate,” Bhutto said.

The statement comes hours after the Supreme Court framed contempt of court charges against Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, for failing to write a letter to Swiss authorities despite court instructions in the NRO case.
