Good Boy Pakistan; Good Boy!

The day was Saturday.

Date; 26th November 2011.

Right after the midnight hour, Twenty four Pakistani soldiers resume their normal duty and keep guard of their respective check posts separated by at least one kilometer; near the Afghan border not knowing what fate holds for them in the next hours.

Meanwhile, two NATO Apache helicopters an AC-130 Gunship and two F-15E- Eagle fighter jets, about to enter the Pakistani border with intentions of bombarding two targets, codename “Boulder” and codename “Volcano”.

Pakistani soldiers hadn’t a clue when the gunships came and opened fire at the check-posts located near the border area of Salala in Mohmand Agency, FATA.

Under heavy fire, they tried to fight back; with whatever resources they had at hand, sadly to a failed purpose. The Bombardment began at 2:00 am and went on for almost two hours and continued even when they demanded them to stop.

24 Soldiers died that night, 13 others injured.

Pakistan and America suffered a big blow to their relationships. Pakistan, now angry and seeking retribution; ordered all routes for NATO supplies for Afghanistan war to be shut down and kicked American forces out of Pakistani Shamsi Air base.

On the other hand, America; in vague hopes of diverting attention off the incident; beating around the bush by claiming investigations and inquiries.

Today, Diplomacy came into play when senior Pakistani politicians started hinting a re-opening of the supply routes for NATO towards Afghanistan and talks began between US, Pakistan and NATO to re-open the borders.

I saw subtlety at its best.

If it was all about the Money to begin with, why did we wait for so long? What signals were we trying to send? That we’re displeased about you killing our soldiers, but if the price is right, we can continue this relationship?

In my mind I was sure this was going to happen soon enough.

I knew it the day Pakistani officials declared the shutdown of supply routes for NATO.

Most of us knew.

We can very well compare this to an act of a stubborn child who wants more toys, so he holds his breath until his own face turns blue. Difference is America is not our Parent. It does not care if we live or die. Having said that, I also know that even we; ourselves don’t care if we live or die and by “we” I mean people who lead us, people who represent Pakistan and the common man too, for if it wasn’t for his wise selection, this country would not be blessed with such leaders.

So as it turns out, yes Pakistan is that child, and America is our parent, a pretend-parent. No matter how much it slaps us we always go back running and begging for more.

Because just like that CHILD, our retribution comes in forms of un-important materialistic objects like Money.
