Following Hussain Haqqani's resignation, Iffat Imran Gardezi, the Deputy Chief of Mission, has been appointed Pakistan's acting Ambassador to the US.

According to Foreign Office sources, Gardezi has been given responsibility to serve as Pakistan's acting Ambassador to United States after Haqqani tendered his resignation over the controversial 'memo'.

Gardezi was deputy chief of Mission and assisting the outgoing Ambassador Haqqani in the overall functioning of the Embassy.

She was also dealing with both political and administrative issues.
