US outreach to Pakistan continues despite attacks

The White House says it will continue its outreach to Pakistan even as it demands that Islamabad break its links to Haqqani extremists blamed for the attack on the U.S. embassy in Afghanistan last week.

Press Secretary Jay Carney spoke to reporters Friday, a day after Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Adm. Mike Mullen said Pakistan's spy agency was helping militants attack U.S. targets inside Afghanistan.

Carney says the administration knows the Haqqani network was responsible for the attacks on the U.S. embassy in Kabul and several other assaults. He says it's imperative that Pakistan take "strong and immediate action" against the network.

He reiterated that the United States has an important relationship with Pakistan and said Washington will make its concerns clear.
