Eid ul fitar celebrated with great zeal

Eid-ul-Fitr was celebrated across the country on Wednesday with great religious fervour and festivity, marking the reward of the holy month of Ramadan. Big congregations were held across the country with special arrangements made to offer the Eid prayers.

In the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, over 300 Eid congregations were held in different areas. In Islamabad, the biggest congregation was held at the Faisal Mosque, where Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani and senior government officials offered the Eid prayers.

During the congrigations, special prayers were offered for the progress and prosperity of the country, unity of Ummah, and liberation of Muslim territories.

On the occasion, the clerics highlighted significance of Eid-ul-Fitr and Ramadanul Mubarak in their sermons. They stressed the need for unity among the Muslims to overcome the challenges they are facing on internal and external fronts.

Radio and television channels had chalked out a series of special programmes on the occasion of Eid while newspapers published special supplements, highlighting the significance of the day.

Thousands of fun seekers including women and children especially on second and third day of the Eid-ul-Fitr thronged to the parks, Picnic points and other recreational spots of different cities to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr.

The rates of chips, biscuits, burgers, soft drinks, mineral water and other items were almost double in the parks of twin cities as compared to open markets.

The fruit and vegetable sellers charged exorbitant rates especially on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr.

Theatres and cinemas attracted a good number of people. Cinemas showed seven Urdu, Punjabi films while theatres presented new plays to attract maximum possible number of drama lovers and succeeded in doing so.
People also thronged restaurants and fast food points to enjoy delicious foods.

Security was also beefed up across the country to avert any unpleasant incident on the occasion.
