Lahore: Dengue cases rise to 155

The gradual increase in the number of fresh dengue fever cases each month after the topical rainfall has reached to 155 is an alarming situation for the provincial health authorities.

The months of September and October are considered the peak season for mosquito breeding which give rise to the number of dengue fever and malaria patients.

Besides, all the precautionary measures including insecticide spray and a better health infrastructure dengue cases are increasing rapidly due to the Stagnant water in the parks and streets.

On Thursday, 70 persons were tested positive for dengue and out of these 64 were from Lahore. Two persons were tested positive for dengue from Faisalabad and one each from Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sargodha and Hafizabad.

Last year, Punjab witnessed an unusual rise in dengue fever patients registering the record number of 5,693 patients, including 4,494 in Lahore alone. A total of 1,199 patients were reported from other 35 districts of the province in 2010. The most affected districts in Punjab, other than Lahore, were Faisalabad, Rawalpindi and Chakwal.
