Sindh: 28 died in rain related incidents

Widespread monsoon rain/thundershower continued in Sindh including Karachi that filled the roads with water while submerged many low areas, while leaving 18 people dead and a large number of injured in roof collapses and rain-related incidents.

Dozens of villages also came under floodwater and ruined the cultivated crops over thousands of acre agricultural land.

At least six persons were killed and 8 others injured in Bhan singhabad in roof collapse of a house.

Some 23 people were killed after rain in District Mirpur Khas. DCO Mirpur Khas, Ghulam Hussain Memon said that Rs, 1 lac will be given to the victims’ families.

Temperature may further fall to 25 degrees or even below with chances of showers against 28 degrees registered in the metropolis on Thursday afternoon.

Meanwhile, dozens of villages came under water which ruined the cultivated crops over thousands of acre agricultural land in different areas of Sindh. The rains disrupted the power supply and communication links in many areas.

The heavy rains lashed Hyderabad, Badin, Makli, Thatta and other areas of Sindh last night. The rain and the resultant floodwater ruined the cultivated crops over thousands of acre of agricultural land in Badin.

According to the sources, a man drowned in LBOD drain near umer Koth. 2 girls died and 5 women got wounded as the roof of their house collapsed. A child, Haseeb and his mother were killed due to roof collapse in Tando Jam. In Jhuddo Town, Mohammad Maganhar, Ms Kheti and Ms Jamni were killed in a similar incident.

Other districts of Sindh including Thatta are also facing difficulties post monsoon rains as the water has immersed houses in many areas while no arrangement has been done to control the situation so far.

Many areas of Hyderabad including Sabzi Mandi, Railway Colony, Latifabad No.2 and 6 are also affected by heavy rainfall.
