Earthquake hits northwest Pakistan

A moderate earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale on Monday hit northwestern and eastern parts of the country.

Tremors were felt in several parts of the country after an earthquake hit Punjab and Balochistan. However, there are no reports of any loss of life or damage to property.

Mild tremors were felt in several parts of Punjab and Balochistan, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Peshawar, Swat and Mansehra, meterological department said.

The temblor occurred at about 7:45AM (local time) and its epicenter was 290 kilometers from Chitral in Tajikistan.

The quake forced people to flee out of homes in panic and in some parts announcements were made in mosques, asking the people to go out of homes.

A major earthquake with a magnitude of 7.3 had hit various parts of Pakistan on Tuesday, 18 January.
