Kashmir hit by strike on anniversary of Indian troop deployment
Shops and businesses were shut on Friday in Srinagar during a strike called by Kashmiri Leaders on the anniversary of the day Indian forces occupied the region in 1947.
Most schools and government offices in the city were also shut.
It marked the occupation of Indian troops in the Muslim-majority state after independence from Britain.
"The day should be observed as a black day," said political activist Shabir Shah, head of the Democratic Freedom Party.
