Gunman in Brazil surrenders after taking hostages
A gunman threatening to kill his wife surrendered to police on Friday after taking hostages on a bus outside Rio de Janeiro, local television reported.
Armed with a .38 caliber pistol, the man gave himself up and released eight hostages after having freed most of the other hostages. No one was injured in the incident, Globo News reported.
Earlier, about 15 of the hostages escaped out a bus window after spending more than seven harrowing hours under the control of the hostage taker, Globo News said.
Police had surrounded the bus and negotiated with the man, said to be distraught over his wife possibly leaving him, reports said.
