More than 50 killed, 100 missing in Afghanistan floods
More than 50 people have been killed and another 100 are missing in western Afghanistan after the worst flooding in years, a provincial official said Saturday.
Fifty-two bodies had been recovered after flash floods hit Balamurghab district of western Badghis province on Thursday, Habibullah Murghabi, who is the head of a government-appointed disaster committee, told AFP.
Another 100 people were missing as the floods washed away up to six villages, he said. More than 5,000 animals were also killed.
The NATO-led International Security Assistance Force said around 1,000 houses were believed to have been destroyed.
