Pakistan horticulture industry earns $ 130 mln
Pakistan contributes $130 million in world horticulture market among total worth of $180 billion, official sources said on Friday.
They said Pakistan's share could be increased by adopting modern technologies of horticulture.
Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock said that Pakistan's climitical conditions were most suitable for all kinds of horticulture crops like, fruits, vegetables and flowers.
They said different kinds of fruits like citrus, mango, banana, apple etc grow throughout the season which besides fulfilling domestic consumption were also being exported to other countries. The Punjab province is leading with production of 63 per cent fruit and 60 per cent vegetables.
Most of the fruit and vegetable production is consumed in fresh form and there are 25 medium and small industrial fruit processing units working in all major cities of the country, the sources said.
The performance of Pakistan's horticulture export industry remained excellent during last couple of years and its share in international market has been improved by 12 per cent.
Pakistan earns 64.753 million US dollars annually by exporting different fruits like apple ,banana, mango, onion, potato and vegetable of different kinds, the sources informed.
