Mirwaiz Maulvi Umar Farooq, chairman of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC), Sunday evening discussed with President Asif Ali Zardari the latest situation in Jammu and Kashmir when he called on the Pakistani leader. Officials said during the 30-minute meeting, the President assured Maulvi Farooq of Pakistan’s continued moral, political and diplomatic support for the Kashmiris people’s just struggle to get their basic rights.
Present at the meeting were Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir, Pakistan’s High Commissioner to India Shahid Malik and Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States Husain Haqqani.
In his address to the UN General Assembly on Friday, President Zardari underscored the need for the resolution of Kashmir dispute with India. “Meaningful progress towards resolution of the Kashmir dispute is necessary for durable peace and stability in South Asia,” he told delegates from around the world.
