Benazir’s reception reflects political freedom: Durrani
Minister for Information and Broadcasting Muhammad Ali Durrani on Thursday said that unhindered reception of PPP Chairperson Benazir Bhutto in Karachi demonstrated the government’s firm belief in freedom of expression and political activities talking to media after ground-breaking ceremony of Aiwan-e-Quaid here, he said level-playing field for all the political parties is one of the hallmarks of the policies of President Pervez Musharraf and the present government.
He said Benazir Bhutto now has an opportunity to practically get involved in local politics and present a constructive programme before the people.
“Benazir Bhutto needs to remove perceptions of the people about her past because they still remember the malpractices during her rule,â€
The Minister said President Musharraf has introduced a new political culture and promoted reconciliation and dialogue among the political forces in the country.
To a question, he said the National Reconciliation Ordinance notwithstanding, the issue of corruption is alive in the minds of the people and they would decide fate of the corrupt people in the forthcoming elections.
He said Benazir and others who ruled the country in the past will be answerable to the masses for their failure to deliver on their pledges to the people.
The Information Minister said PML and its allies are confident that people would support the present government in the forthcoming because of its performance.
