The federal government is poised to announce adjustments to petroleum prices on December 31, with potential increases in diesel and kerosene oil prices, while petrol prices are expected to remain stable.
Sources from the Petroleum Division have indicated that diesel prices may rise by over Rs4 per litre, and kerosene oil could see an increase of Rs1 per litre. Petrol prices, however, are likely to remain unchanged for the time being.
The official announcement will occur on New Year’s Eve, with the Finance Minister consulting the Prime Minister before finalizing any changes.
“There is a possibility that petrol prices could also be adjusted, but clarity will come once the official notification is released,” noted a source.
These anticipated changes are part of the government’s regular review of fuel prices, which are influenced by global market trends and domestic economic factors.

Petroleum product prices to remain unchanged for next fortnight
On December 15, the government had previously announced fuel price adjustments for the upcoming fortnight, maintaining petrol prices at Rs252.10 per litre while reducing high-speed diesel prices by Rs3.05, bringing it to Rs255.38 per litre.
Additionally, kerosene and light diesel prices were reduced, with kerosene now priced at Rs161.66 per litre (down Rs3.32) and light diesel at Rs148.95 per litre (a decrease of Rs2.78).
