The Karachi police have claimed to have arrested a couple allegedly involved in motorcycle snatching. They have claimed to have recovered weapons and cash from their possession.
The SITE Super Highway police apprehended the suspects based on a tip-off regarding their activities.
According to SSP East Farukh Raza, the couple was known for “using firearms” to steal motorcycles in the East District and Keamari areas.
Following an operation, police arrested the suspects and registered a case against them. Further investigations were under way.
Earlier this month, Inspector General of Police Ghulam Nabi Memon acknowledged that incidents of street crime in Karachi and kidnapping for ransom cases in the riverine area of Sindh had created a “perception” that the law enforcement agency was failing to maintain law and order.
He told a press conference that the police could achieve success only when the people would cooperate with them.
With so much population and presence of so many repeat offenders and drug addicts, street crimes had always remained a challenge for the police in Karachi, the IGP added.
