Fact check: Was Diwali celebrated in Saudi Arabia?

Every year, the Hindu festival of Diwali is celebrated globally, with images and videos often going viral on social media.

This year, claims surfaced that Diwali festivities took place in Saudi Arabia, accompanied by various videos circulating online.

The captions of these videos suggest that a fireworks display was held in Saudi Arabia for Diwali, illuminating the night sky.

The footage shows men and women in traditional attire enjoying the display, with assertions that the video originates from Saudi Arabia.

On the social media platform X, one user shared the video, captioning it: “Celebrating Diwali in Saudi Arabia,” and noted that the Arab world is embracing the light after coming out of darkness.

However, fact-checking has revealed that the video is old and does not pertain to Diwali celebrations.
