External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar made pointed remarks towards Pakistan during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit, highlighting that cross-border activities characterized by extremism and separatism hinder bilateral trade and relations.
Speaking at the ongoing summit, Jaishankar stated, “It is evident that development and growth require peace and stability. As outlined in the SCO Charter, this entails a firm stance against the ‘three evils’—terrorism, extremism, and separatism.” He underscored that such negative activities would not foster trade, energy flows, or connectivity between nations.
The Minister stressed the importance of the SCO’s mission to combat these issues, stating, “In today’s world, where globalization and rebalancing are significant realities, we must advance the SCO’s primary goal.” He called for honest dialogue, trust, and good neighborliness, reiterating the need for adherence to the SCO Charter.
In his national statement, Jaishankar emphasized that cooperation among member states should be rooted in mutual respect, sovereignty, and genuine partnerships, rather than unilateral agendas.
He pointed out that the SCO cannot move forward by selectively adopting global practices, particularly in trade and transit.
Jaishankar also outlined India’s global initiatives for sustainability, including the International Solar Alliance, the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure, and the promotion of sustainable lifestyles through Mission LiFE.
