Security officials in Turkey have arrested a man who claimed to be a prophet.Mustafa Çabuk had formed a religious group in Çanakkale, reportedly attracting around 200 followers, as reported by both state and private media.
Çabuk, who called himself “the Mahdi Awaited,” was apprehended along with 15 of his followers.
The government has accused Çabuk and his close followers of exploiting religious beliefs for financial gain.
They are expected to face financial fraud charges once the investigation concludes and they are presented in court.
Çabuk’s claims began in 2023 when he started renting hotels and homes under the guise of providing shelter for earthquake victims across Turkey.
He later took to social media to share his beliefs, asserting that he had received divine signs.
Reports indicate that he encouraged his followers to sell their assets and take out loans, promising them substantial returns, which sparked controversy online.
Many observers believe that Çabuk’s followers were misled, with some arguing that those who willingly gave him money should also accept responsibility for their choices.

In addition to confiscating funds from Shabouk and his followers, authorities recovered weapons during the arrest.
He faces charges of financial fraud and forming a criminal group, with the arrests taking place on October 8.
Further reports reveal that Çabuk claimed to have received a vision in a dream regarding the location of the “Ark of the Covenant,” using these fabricated claims to bolster his following and secure significant financial profits.
