Mob vandalises ECP office during NA-231 recounting, ballot bags set on fire

Serious violence erupted during a vote recount at four polling stations in National Assembly constituency NA-231.

Angry mobs vandalized the Election Commission office, while masked individuals set fire to ballot bags and escaped.

The incident began when supporters of two different parties clashed during the recount, engaging in intense shouting and confrontation. The ensuing violence led to the vandalism of the Election Commission office, prompting the deployment of police and rangers. Police forces subsequently entered the Election Commission office.

Masked individuals attacked the Regional Election Commission office, setting fire to ballot bags before fleeing the scene.

A witness account emerged following the attack. Zubair, a clerk, reported being present in the Election Commission office when masked individuals stormed the building, causing significant damage, including overturning furniture.

Zubair also stated that he was injured during the attack.

An independent candidate backed by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Khalid Mehmood Ali filed a plea against the victory of Pakistan People’s Party’s Abdul Hakim Baloch in the constituency.
