Two masterminds behind the 2021 Dasu Dam attack were killed during a failed escape attempt, according to the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD).
The incident occurred while five terrorists were being transported from Sahiwal jail under high alert.
Unknown assailants launched an attack in an attempt to free the prisoners. In the ensuing crossfire, two of the terrorists, identified as Muhammad Hussain and Ayaz, were killed by their own accomplices.
Three other terrorists, who were being transported in a separate vehicle, remained unharmed. The shootout took place near Sahiwal’s Marine Road.
The terrorists involved had already been sentenced to death for their roles in the Dasu Dam attack, which killed thirteen people, including nine Chinese nationals, on July 14, 2021. Over twenty others were injured in the attack.
