The UK is set for a taste of autumn this week as a blast of Arctic air moves in, bringing colder temperatures and showers.
Temperatures will be around four to seven degrees Celsius below average, with daytime highs of nine to 14 degrees Celsius. The wind will make it feel even colder, and there will be lots of showers in northern and western areas, some of them heavy and thundery with hail.
The air will be cold enough over the highest ground of Scotland for some of the showers to turn wintry, with snow possible on the mountains.
Nights will also be chilly, with temperatures dropping down to 3-6 degrees Celsius and a touch of ground frost in more rural areas.
By Friday and into the weekend, the wind direction will change to a south-westerly, bringing in more seasonally average temperatures of around 16 to 20 degrees Celsius.
The change in weather comes after many parts of England and Wales experienced some very wet days with thunderstorms and flash flooding.
September has so far been very wet for some areas, with parts of England and Wales receiving over a month’s worth of rain in the last few days.
