US-based news outlet Politico has claimed that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is at risk of being assassinated due to his efforts to push friendly relations with Israel.
The report published has informed US Congress members that Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s life is at risk due to his hard bargain with US and Israel.
“Saudis care deeply about this, and the street throughout the Middle East cares deeply about this, and my tenure as the keeper of the holy sites of Islam will not be secure if I don’t address what is the most pressing issue of justice in our region,” Saudi Crown Prince was quoted as saying.
Seeing these threats, the Saudi Crown Prince still wished to pursue these relations, viewing them as essential for Saudi Arabia’s future, the outlet claimed.
However, the Israeli government is resisting these efforts, which also includes talking about the Palestinian state in the agreement.
Earlier this year, amidst a severe Israeli military campaign in Gaza, Saudi Arabia reiterated its stance to the United States, making it clear that it would not move forward with establishing diplomatic relations with Israel. The kingdom’s position hinges on the recognition of an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, and an end to Israeli “aggression” in Gaza. This stance was underscored in a statement from the Saudi foreign ministry.
Despite White House National Security spokesperson John Kirby’s earlier remarks suggesting that the Biden administration had seen encouraging signs of ongoing normalization talks between Saudi Arabia and Israel, Saudi Arabia reaffirmed its firm position on the Palestinian issue following these comments.
