Sheikh Hasina intended to record a speech before hurried departure

Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina intended to record a speech but had to leave the prime minister’s house and possibly the country on Monday as the army chief prepared to address the nation.

Bangladeshi newspaper Dhaka Tribune reported that Sheikh Hasina intended to record a speech but did not get the opportunity to do so.

The newspaper said that Sheikh Hasina departed from Bangabhaban at around 2:30pm on Monday on a military helicopter, accompanied by her younger sister, Sheikh Rehana for a “safer place.”

Citing soures, Dhaka Tribune said that they were heading to West Bengal, India.

Meanwhile, thousands of people have stormed inside Ganabhaban, the official resident of the prime minister, after receiving news that Sheikh Hasina departed from Bangabhaban.
