Pakistani woman ‘crosses border to India’ for love, leaving behind two children

Another Pakistani woman has travelled to India for her lover, Indian media reported, leaving behind her two young sons, another cross-border love story after Seema Haider left the country last year to be with her beloved in the neighbouring country.

Mehvish, 25, from Lahore, has married Rehman, 30, from the Bikaner district of India’s Rajasthan state, The Indian Express reported.

The report states that the two met online via Facebook. The Pakistani woman has been running her beauty parlour for the past decade.

Mehvish was previously married to a man from Badami Bagh, Lahore. The couple divorced in 2018 after 12 years of marriage. The couple has two sons, aged 12 and seven years old.

After her divorce, she connected with Rehman, a transporter working in Kuwait, and the two proposed to each other on March 13, 2022. Just three days later, they were married via video conference. The couple later had an in-person marriage ceremony during Mehvish’s Umrah pilgrimage to Makkah in 2023.

On July 25, she travelled from Islamabad to the Wagah border, where she crossed into India on a 45-day tourist visa. Rehman’s family members were there to receive her and take her to their village, Pithisar.

But her arrival has caught the attention of intelligence and security agencies, who are investigating her. Police have questioned her and verified her passport and visa.

Rehman’s first wife, Farida, whom he had married in 2011, has also filed a complaint with the police. Farida alleges that Rehman’s marriage to Mehvish is unauthorised as he has not legally divorced her.
