Alleged desecration of Holy Quran sparks violence in Sargodha

In Punjab’s Sargodha an alleged desecration of the Holy Quran sparked violent protests and mob attacks on Friday.

The mob attacked multiple houses, broke windows, and set the household belongings on fire.

Local police officials requesting anonymity said they had rescued a Christian family and relocated them to a safe place. However, there was no immediate words from the government or senior police officials.

Video clips obtained by Aaj News show police personnel standing between the angry mob and private properties.

The violence occured in the Mujahid Colony area of Sargodha.

Sargodha district police officer (DPO) and other officials rushed to the area as police personnel tried to disperse the mob.

Police officials said the desecration was committed by unknown people and burnt pages of religious books were found sparking violent protest.

Members of peace committee also arrived in the area and urged people to stay calm.

In August 2023, violent mobs burnt Christian home in Punjab’s Jaranwala after blashphemy allegations.
