Karachi man gets life in prison for blasphemy against Quran

A Karachi court sent a man to jail for life after being found guilty of blasphemy against the Holy Quran.

The punishment was handed down to the accused,Zaeem Imran, by Additional District and Sessions Judge Wasiti Zabihah Khatak in Karachi after being found guilty of blasphemy against the Holy Quran.

Prosecutor Hina Naz argued that the accused’s wife had filed a case against her husband. The husband had objected to his wife’s constant use of the mobile phone and had also accused her of wrongdoing.

The court stated that Zaeem Imran has been sentenced under Section 295-B, and he has also violated the law along with committing the crime.

Zaeem Imran reportedly told his wife to swear on the Quran that you are not in contact with someone else.

Despite his wife’s clarification, the husband did not believe her and, in a fit of rage, set fire to the Holy Quran. Following the incident, the complainant filed a case against her husband and later announced her intention to seek divorce.

The court stated that the accused’s disgraceful act has hurt the sentiments of society, and he failed to prove his claim in his defense. Zaeem Imran also failed to disclose who, if not him, had committed the disrespect against the Holy Quran.

In court, the accused claimed that his wife was involved in an illicit relationship with someone else.
