The National Highways and Motorway Police have announced that drivers would have to pay a heavy fine of up to Rs10,000 in case of violating traffic rules. The new decision would come into effect from January 1.
“The fine would be applicable on all kinds of vehicles without any discrimination,” the NHMP said in a statement on Sunday. It will be followed all highways that fall under the domain of NHMP.
The decision comes at a time when the highway police have been dealing with heavy fog in Punjab. Police daily put traffic updates on social media to avoid any untoward incidents as several accidents occurred on the highway in the past due to fog.
The amount of the fine starts from Rs1,000.
Moreover, police added that the entry of vehicles without M-tag would be banned. They advised to install a M-tag on their vehicle in order to avoid any trouble.
They advised drivers to visit nearest M-tag centre to acquire the needed tag. The CNIC, car, and documents are necessary for seeking the tag.
