Over 10,000 officers from the Federal Board of Revenue did not file their tax returns this year, sources said on Thursday.
The reports said that a large chunk of the officers who did not file their returns are below grade-17. However, senior officers are also included in the list.
The Board has not taken any action against the officers so far.
It is also worth mentioning that the officers failed to file their returns despite an extension in the last date to file returns.
The FBR employs 25,000 officers including 1,700 in grade-17 and above. Out of these senior officers, 300 did not file their returns in 2023, sources said. However, the number has come down from 500 from year ago.
The situation is better in other departments such as Inland Revenue, where 88% officers filed returns, and Customs, where 80% filed their returns.
The extension in date of filing returns upto December 31 is said to be a key reason for the high ratios.
