Bollywood A-lister Rani Mukerji expressed regret over missing the opportunity to be a part of Aamir Khan’s blockbuster movie ‘Lagaan’.
“The only film which I could say I was unfortunate to miss was Lagaan, because there was a particular date clash,” she said during the 54th International Film Festival of India (IFFI).
The film was released in 2021 and depicted the story of a village where the tyrannical Captain Russell had imposed an unprecedented land tax on its citizens.
Recalling the days when Khan was kick-starting the production of Lagaan, Mukerji said Khan offered her a role in the movie but she couldn’t grab the opportunity owing to her previous commitment.
“I am shooting this film in a particular way, so I want all my actors at this particular place for six months,” the actress recalled the Lagaan star as saying.
However, Mukerji said that she had already signed another project on the same dates.
“I asked the producer of the movie if could leave the project and work with Aamir, but he refused to let me go,” she added.
Aamir Khan’s blockbuster Lagaan was released in 2001 and it had emerged as one of the year’s most successful ventures. The movie not only made significant revenue but was also recognised globally.
The movie received an Oscar nomination and became the third highest-grossing Bollywood movie of that year.
