A school teacher was killed and 15 others injured after a school bus fell into a gorge at Shahdara Valley Picnic Point near Islamabad on Saturday.
The deceased teacher was identified as 22-year-old Hania Jan, sources in police said and added that as many as 39 people, including teachers and students, were on the bus.
The bus was carrying children from American Alliance School Sheikhupura, on a school trip to the federal capital when the driver parked the vehicle on the roadside in a hilly terrain.
The vehicle began moving backward and fell into the gorge. The bus driver and conductor fled the scene as rescue officials and police arrived and began the rescue operation.
The crash killed one teacher and wounded 20 students who were rushed to the Poly Clinic Hospital in Islamabad. The infirmary has been put on high alert and routine patients were asked to use an alternate route instead of the emergency gate entrance.
One of the wounded students was moved to the Benazir Bhutto Hospital.
Meanwhile, the Islamabad police also confirmed the accident and added that a heavy contingent of police and rescue teams were on site. But it did not mention the name of the school and the number of students injured in a post on X.
