Former defence minister and PML-N leader Khawaja Asif has said that it was possible to divorce the establishment from Pakistani politics if all parties including institutions sit together.
“It is possible in the future. We have to sit together to settle this matter. Nawaz Sharif said the same thing in his address,” he told Asif Asma Shirazi on Faisla Aap Ka on Wednesday.
However, he ruled out the possibility of the success of such dialogue as the political parties have taken their stance on different matters.
“Once every political party knows its worth after the elections, then a dialogue should be held in this regard,” he said.
The PML-N leader also urged the judiciary to purge itself from politics.“Judiciary has taken an overdose of politics.”
The decisions in the past six or seven years were given based on a political basis instead of the Constitution, he said, adding: “The judiciary is on the top position among those who destroyed Pakistan.”
He also contended the Supreme Court’s verdict on the civilians’ trial in the military courts, saying “it was not soul searching on the judiciary’s part.”
Responding to a question on the former PDM government’s failure to take action against the alleged corruption of Khan, he said that the Sharif-led government was busy sorting out the country’s economic issues.
“I am not saying that we were successful in that but we can defend our economic policies,” he added.
Asif refuted the claims of Sharif getting special treatment for his return to the country and securing relief from the courts.
He said that nature was compensating the former prime minister for the ordeals he faced during his political career.
