Shahnawaz Amir’s statement to be recorded in Sara Inam murder case

A district and sessions court said that it will record the statement of Shahnawaz Amir in the case of murdering his wife, Sara Inam, on October 18.

The recording of the statement was delayed after Amir’s lawyer did not show up in court on Thursday, due to other commitments.

Amir, who is the son of journalist Ayaz Amir, was arrested on September 23 last year from a farmhouse in Islamabad. He had allegedly killed his wife Sara, who had returned from Dubai only a year ago.

In December, Amir and his mother Sameena Shah, were indicted in the murder. However, the case still faced delays amid reports that Sara’s family was being pressured to reach a compromise. Inamur Rehman, father of the victim, had later ruled out any possibility of a compromise.

The testimonies of the investigation officer and prosecution witnesses have already been recorded in the case.

The officer told the court in July that not only the alleged weapon of murder been recovered from the scne of the crime but Amir had also confessed to his crime in custody.

At the next hearing, Amir’s statement will be recorded under section 342 of the criminal procedure code.
